Centre Packs and Distributes 350 Meals to Sandy Creek Flood Victims

In the aftermath of devastating floods that swept through the Sandy Creek and Leander areas of Central Texas, local families were left grappling with damaged homes, displaced loved ones, and limited access to basic needs. While first responders and emergency crews worked around the clock, a growing need emerged for something simple but vital—a hot meal and a moment of relief.

Recognizing the need for both hands-on support and hope, a team of volunteers from Centre Technologies stepped up to help. "I’m not a religious person," said Aleksandr Kotov, one of the volunteers. "But I believe in the law of the boomerang. Just as a boomerang returns to the one who throws it, a person’s actions come back to them. The people dearest to me live in another country, thousands of miles away. I have no way of helping them. I believe that by helping people where I can, I can hope that someone will help my loved ones in their time of need. I really want to believe in that." Thankfully, he's not alone in that thought-process.

Community-Centered partnerships

To make the greatest impact possible, Centre Technologies partnered with two local organizations already on the ground: Double A BBQ, known for its heart as much as its heat, and Round Mountain Baptist Church, a long-standing community hub helping coordinate volunteer relief efforts.

Together, they developed a hands-on plan—not just to cook meals, but to meet the fundamental needs of families and frontline workers facing days of uncertainty. Centre Technologies stepped in to fund and purchase the food, ensuring quality ingredients were on hand to prepare comforting, hearty meals for the community. Beyond financial support, Centre also rallied its employees, sending 4 volunteers to handle every part of the operation, from meal prep and packing to logistical coordination and final delivery. Those involved were Anthony Barron, Aleksandr Kotov, Daniel Perez, and Emily Kirk.

"Volunteering is the most meaningful way I know to make a tangible difference and help families on the long road to recovery. Giving up a day or a weekend of my life is the very least I can do. To me, that has far more impact than posting or debating online. If we really want to make a difference, it takes collective action, not just conversation."

Impact on Sandy Creek Flood Victims, First Responders, and Cleanup Volunteers

"I got excited when Josh [Aaron] from Double A reached out to me about getting this opportunity going. E specially since the Leander and Sandy Creek areas haven't gotten the same coverage as Kerr County victims," said Emily Kirk, one of the volunteers. "I mean, these are our neighbors, our friends, our families. Can you imagine being in their shoes? To have to rebuild from scratch?"

This wasn't a drop-off and disappear effort either. It was a boots-on-the-ground collaboration designed to bring support, relief, and a personal connection to those hit hardest by the floods. By the end of the day, the team provided:

  • 350 packaged and delivered meals
  • 320 lbs of chicken, 200 lbs of sausage, a whopping 2 100 quart pots of beans, 318 oz of corn, and enough pickles, onions, bread, and sauce to add to each packaged container
  • ~300 meals left over to be distributed at dinner time

"I think the word community sums it up. I’m grateful for the times I needed help and community stepped in, whether it was from family, friends , or a stranger.  In this case, seeing everyone that was there from all parts/skills/walks of life willing to help with whatever they could was really moving."

Thank you to Double A BBQ, Round Mountain Baptist Church, and all the volunteers who made this possible.
